Use Elgg if you look for a free open source software. Also if you have some money you may buy Skadate it also has good functionality and the price is not so high.
Is there social software like skadaet but free? I mean I need a full featured solution but don't feel like paying more than a hundred. I know there are no totally free scripts because one way or another you'll need to pay a vendor for branding and ad removal, and most likely for plugins. But still, is there somewhat complete software for no or very low cost? I like Dolphin, but they say it's buggy and the license is VERY expensive. I also like PHPfox and Buddypress. But none of them makes me feel 100% comfortable. I know if I ask for advice I'll hear 10 opinions and all of them will be different. Is there anything you've tried by yourself, and can show me a live successful site built on this or that script? I'd be xtremely thankful for this kind of info.
Have you guys heard of Oxwall software? It's new but what I've read sounds promising. But I'm reluctant to use it exactly because it's new. There are no reviews, no opinions. I don't know how stable they are. If by chance someone has used Oxwall I'll be very thankful if you guys share your experience. And what about Elgg? Is it as good as they say? For one good review I find ten bad ones LOL. And it's like that with almost every script out there.
