Logos or Banners?

    A logo and a banner are two completely different things. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't seem to realize this.

    The key to a good relationship between a designer and it's client is communication. If the client can't communicate their ideas properly, a designer is going to find it extremely difficult to create a concept that meets their client's requirements. Likewise, if a designer can't communicate properly with their client, they aren't going to be able to create exactly what their client wants.

    Therefore it is of course vital that you use the correct terminology.

    So, what is a logo? Basically a logo should be something that represents your brand. Something that people can identify with you or your website.

    Here are a few definitions via Google;

    • A recognizable graphic design element, representing an organization or product.
    • A company, partnership or corporate creation (design) that denotes a unique entity. A possible combination of letters and art work to create a "sole" entity symbol of that specific unit.
    • A mark or symbol created for an individual, company, or product that translates the impression of the body it is representing into a graphic image.
    A lot of people say that they want a logo / banner. Do you want a logo and a banner? Do you just want a logo? You need to be clear! It really does make a big difference. Often people use the terms logo & banner interchangeably. A logo isn't the same as a banner!

    I don't want to be wasting my time researching your website, brainstorming ideas and then spending a few hours creating a fully scalable vector if all you are after is some flashy advertising banner or header image.

    I completely agree, I'd like to add that you could have some different banners but one logo. Logo is more like your identification.

    Very interesting information, and it does make sense. And a logo can be used in a banner, but a banner can not be used in a logo, right ?
