Thanks for the feedback! I put together the shopping page quickly and I hope you/your client likes my design.

I've attached two images of it to show that the item picture can be modified depending on how it was photographed (whether it is light/dark) and it will still look great in the design.

Comments from client to contestants: Graphical banners/thumbnails/pictures are good to show but not neccessarily for us making decision. We are interested in seeing the quality design of the layout, neatness, placement and details. The overall design should give us one word to describe it which is "Stylish". Make as much revision or entries as you can. This Contest will end April 16th eastern time 11.55pm.. The winner must willing to do minor changes when choosen.

xdemevenx: Like the placement of the shopping page. Overall abit boxy and the brown is abit too brown. Give it abit more style.

Vinpkl- Like how the placement show in the front page, but maybe everything is too boxy and color abit too candy shop. shopping page?

Groffy77- Missing search. Shopping bag maybe if it is in a pink shopping bag shape or something. It would be better if there is few some space where we can place banners for featured clothes, similar product and etc.

This Contest will end April 16th eastern time 11.55pm.. 17th will be the day I meet with my clients to pick the final winner so probably at night I will annouce the winner. Any more entries are welcome.
    Thanks

yeeckoh, is your client going to continue to employ a designer who will be able to make design changes when products change? The fonts and styles/gradients/etc. that El Mariachi has used in his design would require the client to go back into Photoshop and re-export all text and images with a different price, name, or color than what he has shown in his design. Also, many of the fonts used are not supported by a single browser which will require any text to be an image.

With these contests, the client is not always educated in how designs are spliced and coded, because otherwise they could just design and code themselves. I think that it's important for us designers and you the "middle-man," between the client and designer, to explain to the client how some of the entries in this contest are not functional, even though they may look nice.

    Exactly my thoughts right there.

Also, on the colors area of the design from El Mariachi, how would the background continue from that side in bigger screens, it would look cut.

I do fin El Mariachis entry really nice, but unfortunately, not too functional, which is at thed, the goal of a website.

Thanks, Jakiller, for your additional input.

When I view his design it would work great as Flash website, because Flash supports all types of fonts.. but when you design in HTML it needs to be edited almost fully by just changing code. I promise you, the client will not have access to Photoshop and will not know how to re-splice the name of the item, and especially won't understand layers and how to correctly splice the angled preview images.

    Hey ,
I really can't understand what you are saying ? is this what is called hatred !
If you don't know coding don't just say anything that you aren't knowing anything about , this design can look good for both html and flash.
Any medium coder can code this to make it fully functional in both HTML/PHP and Flash.

Mybe after the client pays an small fortune, still i dont know how you would repeat the back ground on the colors area, the colors would look cut.

    Also, this is nothing personal.

I am a coder and a designer.. I know what designs can be coded easily and which designs cannot. I have worked with clients who had been given a design that looked great but they couldn't edit it because they didn't have photoshop. HTML5 does not support gradients, outlines, and shadows on text the same way (or at all) as Photoshop. Also, your "Our Collections" column uses a font that is only support by your computer and the very few other computers that have it installed. Therefore, the only way to edit the text is to download the font online, open the PSD file, edit the text, re-slice it, export it, upload the image to the server, THEN go into the code and edit the image filename and then change the dimensions of the image/button. If you had used a universal font family, such as Arial or Tahoma, all the client would have to do is go into the code and edit the text. What you're doing is creating several extra steps that, I promise you, a client will NOT know how to do or have the resources to do.

This is not hatred, but this is a contest for a fair amount of money. The thing about this site is that anyone can submit designs -- and the client is not going to know any better if a design is functional or not. I am looking out for the client by bringing this up because I have been hired numerous times to fix a design like yours that is great for a static site, but not for a site that will have new products every week.

Also, I'm NOT saying that your design can't be coded. It can easily be coded.. but once it's coded, the person hired to code it is gone, and the client has to make the edits -- unless they pay someone to do that. The client won't have the ability to make those edits, even if it's through a PHP interface. It will STILL require access to the PSD. I can tell you that I would turn down a job to manage a site where I'd be required to refer back to the PSD whenever a single change is made.

I have to say Groffy77 bring up a very good point about unable to easily change without going back/forth the psd, especially the font since this design will be integrate to a shopping script.Although my client wont change the design color as much but definately will need to add new categories and product easily without needing resliced. But I do have dealed with customer who insist needing some font so we have programmer modified a script which everytime they post the words, it will turn word into image. Not very search engine friendly and incur higher cost to implement that.
Whatever I post about my client say here is just what my client said at first impression. The final decision will be held during meeting to went over everything and this will bring up as well.

El Mariachi - No. It will no early annoucement. The deadline is fix.

People thanks for all valued opinion and entry still open. Happy Sunday!
