The thing is I am a real novice when it comes to pixels, dpi and other technical terms, so I am not sure how hard it would be to work with a large area. As a client my main requirement is getting something that I like. So first comes the visual and then the technical. I personally look first at the concept. If I was you (again I am not a designer) I would work in something smaller because I am sure I would still want some touch ups once I decide which one I want. As I am writing this I am starting to feel like a fool: "What am I doing??? Telling a designer how to do his job??" I better stop before I lose my credibility. I hope you get my point.

thats a fair comment, but i honestly don't see it as you telling me what to do. i'm a beginner here aswell, i've not been designing long (just over a month), so i'm still learning, and everything that's said to me is taken in, and it makes me better. i don't know alot about the dpi stuff, i just know it makes it better quality when you resize it, and if you're planning on doing posters and stuff i think thats what you'll need. anyway i'll re-submit any time now, on a smaller scale. i won't quit :)

Just make it either vector or if not, 300dpi A4 size will print fine on most stuff.

Here's my last entry; very simple!

    Hello Jamess,

Again, yours is a very nice stylish logo, but it doesn't follow my priorities. My son was looking at the entries and was showing me a logo he liked and he could not understand why I would not consider it. I had to explain to him the difference between a Ferrary, a Hummer and a family van (I am not sure if this is what you call it at your end). While a Ferrary is very fast you cannot take it off road and you certainly cannot put all your family in it. So all these cars are great and each fulfills a priority. Your logo looks great but doesn't fulfill my priority. My priority is a wide/bold, highly visible font. I prefer visibility over style. Yours seems to have a lot of style but as far as visibility goes its not what I am after on this occasion. Let me know if this makes sense.

Well, if you use Adobe Illustrator, your outputted file is a vector which is basically something that can be resized to whatever size you need, with zero quality loss. The size of a house or whatever. It uses co-ordinates to plot your graphic, rather than actual graphical data, so the files are a lot smaller too.

Is black a permissible color? I assumed you wanted only red and white to save money on printing the labels. If you include black it may cost more, depending on the method you use to print.

Would you like to see a version of my logo with black trim?

@Speno: if you are using photoshop make your designs with vector tools. These are the 4 boxes just under "Smudge Tool" and "Sponge Tool". You can also use some other program that make vectors eg. Adobe Illustrator, Corel, Flash etc. I If you are working with vectors you don't need to worry about quality while resizing....

DaveyBoy Your last entry is the best of the ones you submitted. Very visible and straight to the point. Also follows the instructions completely. Thanks for the great entry.

Let me also say I am personally very pleased with the entries. This is a tough game. You see a lot of great entries, yet in the end you must pick only one.

Thanks for the new try The_Chemist. It looks better than the first one: much cleaner and only red and white (which is my first priority). However, I get the feeling you didn't quite get what I meant by a wide/bold font.

Black is ok. I wanted red and white not so much to save money on labels but to gain visibility. I am not a designer so I am not sure if black will improve your logo. Your logo is highly visible as it is.

I went to a small expo with some basic labels (white, red and black) and got a few sales. Then I got the new labels which looked better, more colourful and more stylish and even though it was a much better expo I sold a lot less than at the smaller expo.

I think the main reason was my products (labels) didn't stand out as in the past and those walking past my stand didn't notice them. So to answer your question I think mainly red and white is probably the most visible combination. I decided visibility is the #1 factor in my case, and that's what I need to concentrate most on.

You can use some black but I prefer this as a "secondary" more subtle addition while making red and white the primary colors.

And while we're on the subject (like I mentioned I am new at this), once I am done with the logo, can I also run a contest here to have the labels designed? It's just one label which comes in different sizes (1kg and 3kg).

OK, thanks for the feedback, I'll take my chances with the one I've submitted, and hope it's strong enough to win.

As for the label contest later, I'm sure we'd all be happy to have a go at that too! :)

I am not sure how fair this is but I really like your design. I think there are better and "more to the point" designs and yet I really like yours. I just think it's a very elegant font that can be easily 'customised" by adding it to anything. It's also really easy to read. I'm not crazy about the background. I reckon it looks better by itself without much of a background.
