Location of backlink matter? Front page vs. links page?

Hi y'all. Curious if link location matters from a high quality / volume site? Such as having a link on their links page vs. front page in terms of SEO only. I know in terms of referring traffic it does but I'm thinking in terms of organic google traffic and SEO page ranking. Thanks in advance.:D

If that's your main concern, of course site wide links are the most important because it appears on all pages. Basically, as long as the backlink is located at a particular page with high PR and traffic, that should be good.

Yep, as long as the backlink is on a page with some PR, then it will count more then on one with no PR irregardless of whether it is on the front page or a subpage.

What you want is a link from a related page that has your keywords in the anchor text. So in your example the home page is probably a much better fit. I'd rather have that one link than a site wide link or a links page link.

Doesn't Google have a policy to penalize site wide links? If that's the case, then site wide links will actually decrease your PR?

You want your links on a page that has a good page rank and has few other links on that page. So for example it might seem like a good idea to have your link on the links page of a site because the PR is 4. However there may be 50 other links on that page, which there usually is a with links page. In which case the main index page which has a PR2 and no outgoing links other than yours would be much better. The more external links out of a given webpage the more PR it loses
