We started out with a global site and a few months ago setup sites in China, Taiwan, Japan, Australia and more recently India. So far the stratergy of localising with local domains and translations has increased our adsense earnings by about a third. While this stratergy is not suitable for all sites, paticularly sites that aren't static. It does work well for static sites, that don't require content to be updated. The costs of translation and buying local domain names is well worth the extra traffic you will receive from google in each country! But be careful that you don't duplicate any content on sites in the same language or those sites will drop out of google But its fine to duplicate your content in other languages. The chinese site instantly picked up a huge amount of traffic but the adsense CPM was quite low to start with, although it has been steadily increasing. I'm wondering if this is because advertisers in China are starting to find out about adsense, possibly via our own site and are now placing ads with adwords. Which makes me wonder, if it would be acceptable to actualy encourage advertisers to visit adwords and place some ads? Taiwan has so far paid about 10 cents! Mostly our .com.tw site runs public service ads. It would be helpful if google promoted its own adwords once in a while when it had no ads to display to give the folks in taiwan the idea to buy some advertising Japan has had less traffic but its paying much higher CPM than any of our other sites. Australia has a higher CPM than our global site. The Indian site seems to be about the same as our global site. If anyone is intersted in applying this stratergy to their site please feel free to contact me and I'll provide you with the details of the translation company we used. They have very reasonable rates and can do quite a large number of languages. I'm keen to hear if anyone else has any experience with google adsense earnings in other countries and if so have you noticed any paticular countries paying higher rates than others.
