Localhost doesn't connect...

    I'm running Windows XP, and installing apache as an application.

    I installed xampp & apach 2.2__ httpd windows installer, on two different occassions. Followed the typical setup, and when I finished installation made sure server was running without errors and then tried to access the default test index.html page through the http://localhost/ and nothing happens. No error, it just hangs. Any suggestions??

    have you checked in services tab, to see if Apache service is started or not?

    Yes, the apache service was running. I tried restarting it as well, with no errors found.
