Local SEO” service for my web business

I have my own website but have never been able to place top 10 in the search engines. I have read about SEO and even tried to optimize to achieve better positioning without any results.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not a professional developer, I am self taught, but have been writing html for years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

You could hire a professional? Look in the services section and see if you can find someone suitable. You could also post your link and some of the things you have tried and you might get some helpful feedback.

    good luck

You don't need a professional company. Anyone can rank for any keyword it's all about how much effort you put into it.

Read a book about onpage optimization then head over to offpage. Create fresh content on a regular basis and build backlinks using the anchor text you want to rank for. There are many ways to build backlinks such as link bait, blog commenting, social bookmarking, article distribution, directories and you can always buy them if you feel the need.

Well, everyone here does have a point. For me it entirely depends on the site owner/developer, if you're good on the web, try doing SEO for your own site. This forum is proven to be one of the best place to learn SEO. But if you think you're more on the developer side and needs professional help on site optimization, then go for a SEO company, or hire some to help you in link building.

    Just my thought :)

Optimizing a site requires time, just be patient and do more work on your website. or you may also hire a company that specializes SEO.

Be patient - this is wrong strategy for all businesses. For SEO as well....
You should analyze your site how it optimized,
then decide which keywords are important for you.
Then think why you are not in TOP with these keywords. Analyze your competitors.
Then think what can you do about this.

Generally all SEO is separated into two major parts.
    1. your site optimisation
    2. proper backlink building.

You don't need to hire a professional unless the 'niche' is really hard to target :)

hardyy12, what is the link to your Web site? I'd be willing to look it over for you and tell you what you need to do (specific to your own situation and needs) - compliments of the house (free).

It'll also be free of the BS and other junk that some people love to put into their work as well.

    Hi Hardyy12
Although it is good that you can work with html and build your own sites, SEO has little to do with html.
I will go against a few other suggestions here in that wouldn't pay an SEO company, Unless you have lots of money to burn. Honestly, ranking high for local search should not be too difficult because the competition is MUCH smaller than it is for online keyword terms. For instance, I have a front page ranking for a keyword term with over 2million competing pages. And thats just for one page of content (just a salespage). Now I have done a little work getting that but I have certainly not spent day after day for months either. The thing to think about here is, are you competing with 2 million sites for your local keyword? Not a chance.

The things that you need to look at are
    1) The structure of your site. ie, can google crawl your site and can it understand the theme of your site.
A good starting point is to put your website url into the google keyword tool external.
    Go here https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
On the left click on the "Website Content" radio button and enter your website url and click"Get Keyword Ideas"

Now in the keywords that come back you should see all the keywords that google can "see" on your site. If you dont see keywords that both describe your business/term + some local identifier (for example, if you sell shoes in say Boise. You would expect to get keywords like shoes, style, fashion, Boise, Idaho etc.
If on the other hand google could only see the keywords relating to shoes but not your location then your are competing with the world instead of the local market. So in this case you should have on the site some content that mentions say......"Welcome to the Super Boise Shoe website. Here you will find the best shoe bargains not only in Boise but anywhere in Idaho" See how that text mentions not only shoes but things to do with the location?

The next thing is one-way links pointing to your site. You need to have links coming in with good anchor text keywords. For the example above, I would have a link on another site like an article with a resource box link back to the site using "Shoes in Boise" or whatever. (This is just an example, Do not guess these keywords. Use proper keyword research as there is no point ranking for keywords that nobody is searching for).

Once you have done some keyword research, you also need to add some of those keywords into your title and meta tags as well as your site content.

Oh well, Ive rambled on long enough I think lol.

If you're still a bit stuck then if you like you can send me a PM with the link to your site and what terms you are trying to rank for and I'll take a look and give you some ideas specific to your site.

    Hope this helps )

    Cheers
    Col

There’re so many factors: on page: keyword in title, link text, in bold, link text from back links, size of your site, frequency of updating your site..
Or Have a look at http://www.touch-soft.biz Natural SEO
in my sign that for some more tips. The main thing is that seems to work is getting you to top from other sites to help you rank well.

    Hardy12,

Every niche is different. Some have vast potential, some have hardly none. If you know how to build a web page, create usable navigation, do internal linking, and write content that is linkable then you simply have to evaluate how high the hill you are trying to climb is.

Good content will bring you links if a site is promoted properly but the links have to be useful. Vary your anchor text but you must concentrate on doable long tail keywords until your site has matured (domain age and trust) enough to be taken seriously for more competitive keywords.

Knowing the right keywords for a niche like massage therapy and alternative medicine, for instance will provide you with the top competitors you have to beat.

Many factors are involved when trying to get to the top in the SERPS including

    Domain age
    Size of site
How highly optimized the internal linkage of the site is
Inbound links and age of those links
Anchor text used in the links
    Where the links are placed

If your site is really new, MSN will give you love long before Google or Yahoo unless you really have an A+ link building campaign and create a buzz in the right places.

Don't give up but be realistic when developing your marketing plan.
