Has anyone tried advertising their website, whether it was your own products, affiiate products or just adsense based website via their local newspaper? what was your experience. Did you get sustained traffic?

yes, and yes it works for me...

    i use a little LOCAL publication called > www.flyingcow.biz
    (for my area)

it's in MANY cities/towns around north america

it's pretty CHEAP to advertise in, and people READ it!

definitely saw a traffic increase SINCE the first week i advertised in it.

Do you advertise everyone once in a while or something like 1x per month?

    every week.

a friend of mine owns the publication, so that helps :)

i want to stress - i promote a local site DIRECTLY in the community using the flyingcow. (it's available in most local restaurants/pubs etc. - and it's FREE, so people READ IT)

i haven't tried the LARGER regional newspapers - way too expensive, plus not "local enough."

It probably depends on what you are selling/providing.

There's a lot of those get rich quick schemes and network marketing schemes in the self employment section of my local paper - week after week - they show up the same advertisements. Must be profitable.

    it all boils down to:

target markets & traffic (to your site)

every product/service has a market somewhere, you just have to find out WHERE/WHO your market is, and TELL THEM how you can staify their "wants and needs."

    sounds easy

    LOL
