    Hello,

This is my first thread posted here as a question.

My question is, how many of you work with the Local scene when marketing? I know a lot of people will tell you that online marketing is the best, but I always wondered with how many people in your local area do not know about places like DP, or other places they can get info. or cheap designs, ect. Would local marketing be profitable? How many of you have advertised and marketed locally? How well of a turnout did it generate?

    Thanks

    Chase

I think local marketing can be profitable, but I would not use offline marketing for an online-business in general. I am sure it works, but it would not have the same effect as onlinemarketing, local or not.

But I do sell TVs and such online, and for that I advertise in local offline-newspapers, and I think it works quite good.

So my opinion is: Online local marekting = Good, Offline local marketinf = depends on what business, and how known your trademark/name is

3 years ago---my company spent 10K for a decent ad in the yellow pages for the year. Total calls from ad= ZERO.

Lots of really good things could have been done w. that cash

A friend of mine spent £800 each for 3 adverts in the Times newspaper advertising his online buisness. Result - NOTHING.

But it did make his clients think he was working hard for them, so it was worth somthing I guess

Thats BIG money, and I really know the frustation from that!
One bad thing about doiing offline marketing is that you can not trace the results in the same way, so you do not really know what you paid for.

    Thanks for your replies.

Would putting business cards and flyers in different buildings that should have my target demographic in it be a good idea? (ie: flyers promoting an arcade website inside toys r' us, kids clothing stores, the toy section of meijer, kmart, ect)

    Thanks

It might work, give it a try. But I do not think it will give you anything really.
And keep in mind that people do not like flyers and stuff on their cars and such =)

I spent 40k on local marketing 12 months ago and hardly got 5% in return from it. Now, I spend 1/2k on online marketing and reap 2000%+ on returns.

Hmmm....can hear that calculator going on in your mind?
