OK first, I understand the basics of SEO, and some more. Working on this client... its just a nightmare I need to create some borders and direction but I feel lost in maze. Need assistance pulling myself out from an outside perspective.

I have been working on a site for a few months, the client does local electronics repair, on all types of electronics but just in several specific areas in 1 specific State. So we have keywords like:

    cdplayer repair
    stereo repair
    walkman repair

there are well over 100 'basic' keyword terms that would be NON-region specific like the ones above. Because you can say:
    [brand] [electronics-type] repair/service/fix

So since my target market is extremely specific, I am struggling to figure out what to use as the main keywords I will than put in the content and try to rank for. The site is up and is looking OK...Getting between 4-10 conversions a day however a potential client goes and searches in Google for the service the client offers, how the hell can I target that?!?! If i were to say just design the homepage to target:
electronics repair new york for example, what would I be missing out? What if I am only targetting 20% of the actual market as a result and losing out on 80% of the market??

    I feel lost...

I looked at Google Insights for Search but I didnt get much out of it. I did try market samurai but at this point as mentioned above I don't feel like I have a good plan in place. I currently have a trial with shoemoney tools - anyone know how I can do this?

    Additional info:
Lets say besides the homepage which will target: electronics repair new york
I need to start creating additional pages to catch all the other phrases people will type like:
cd player service center new york
    stereo repairman new york
    mp3 repair new york
The list is nearly endless!! If I am going to organize this effort, and do it smart and properly, what do you guys think I should do??
Maybe have the homepage only target one term, like electronics repair new york, and each page will only target one term and in total only work on 10 pages? But than I need to go and do link building etc for each page??

Looking at general keyword terms, for example electronics repair, globally gets a lot of searches, but narrowing that down to something worth investing time into for the client ... This is a tricky business!

I'm sure there must be a working practice to do this type of task. It is killing me that I know I'm spending a lot of time optimizing for terms I don't even know if they get 10 searches a month in the region!

Gees, you are really out of perspective.
Here is a story that inspire me:

What happen if you are fishing on a spot that full of hungry fish?

But, when you go fishing on daily basis, and nail 3-5 fishes a day, will you stay at the same spot everyday? Or try to find better spot everyday? Or bring 10 rods and put them on 10 different spots to nail more fish? And what will you do if there're many fisherman sharing the same pool with you?

Now, if I give you a GPS+FishFinder to locate the exact spot of hungry fishes, and there're still too many fisherman sharing the same pool with you, what will you do? I bet you will use your fishfinder to locate the spot that have enough hungry fish but not so many fisherman fishing on that spot.

    Bang!
    That's it!
That's keyword research is all about: find keywords that have high number in search but low in competition!
For your situation, I suggest you to create a continuity campaign for your client.
Pick 25-50 best keywords and convince your client that for long term goal of dominating his local market, all 50 keywords shall be utilized one by one. (You see what I'm talking about here? a long term contract for you, man!)

Pick 5-10 best keywords for on-site optimization, and use the rest for out-site optimization. The easy way is using many free web 2.0 properties to create pages or blog post with banklink point to your client's website.

    What do you say?

    hey,

Interesting idea, but for local search there is not much going on outside of the words of competition. I think the best way to test internally is to setup a small adwords campaign, and dump tons of keywords. See how many impressions I get since its GEO locked into the target market, I get a good value over a few weeks of what terms are being searched for!

To target more than 1 keyword term, how can it be done right? The homepage can focus on more than one keyword term? I have many internal links we also want to rank for displayed on the front page, but I am wondering how to effectively target 5-10 terms throughout the site. We are going to be adding another 45 articles or so, targetting various pages that need emphasis.

Oh, of course, it's GEO targeting SEO. I miss that point. Yes, Google AdWords test campaign will solve your problem.

In your case, I guess, is better to deploy a blog or few blog within your client's domain >> www.example.com/blog
So, your clients website can be a static web page, but the daily update will be in the blog.
