Graphic design, web development and to a similar extent engineering design are all significantly undervalued in the current world market. Many businesses focus only on price and with the availability of 'offshore' companies who due to their local circumstances can or will work for what to others seem ridiculously low prices, does directly affect businesses used to being able to charge a lot more for what in most cases is a better or more thoroughly researched/tested solution.

Selling cheap in any industry is eventually bad for everyone, even the customer and in my experience dealing with many many cases of offshored suppliers across several industries, the quality of work and communication suffers. Boiling it down to its most basic, who would say offshore phone centres are an improvement to customer service?

That said, price will always be a powerful factor in any rational decision about which supplier to choose.

As for 50k for a crap logo, paying that much I'd expect to be able to make them come up with changes until I was happy with it!

 

Genrally I have found that you get what you pay for prices raange from cheap to expesive and so does the quality you are not going to get a $400 splash page for $50.
