The clip art is kind of outdated... for your header area, try using a solid green background instead of leaving it white (to differentiate it from the content area more clearly)

 

I'd try and get some custom category icons made..like 8 said...those are a little outdated...and don't really match with the rest of the site (the design itself is semi-professional looking...and the clipart isn't)...

 

thanks for the feedback. ill give those things a try. i dont really have much clipart to work with, i've been using barrysclipart.com since they are free and don't require a link back or anything. i heard microsoft has clipart on their site i'll take a look at them. i'll mess around with the colors too and see if i can't get something nicer looking. i think it goes without saying that im not a graphic designer, i'll see what i can do though. thanks.

i changed it around a bit.

i think this looks a bit better, i kinda like the blue theme and the more modern clipart.

i'm still not entirely pleased with the logo but it'll do for now i suppose.

Something in the background will do your site wonders. Any color or anything. Buttons are good, btw.
