I've been sitting on this domain ever since I was fortunate enough to acquire it when .biz domains were launched. I'm starting a local community website (under a different domain) for my area and once it is established I had a vague idea of creating a "how to" site for others wishing to do the same which would live at local.biz. Here's my challenge. I'm super busy and I fear that this site will take ages to develop or may never materialise. I'm also not really sure what content to include or how to monetise the site. I'd probably continue to do nothing with it except that I've recently had two offers for the domain, both in the order of $5000. I think I originally paid about $50 so that's the best return on investment I'm ever likely to see. Before I make a decision I'd be interested to hear your opinion. Take the money and run? If you were to build a site, what content would you include? What would be your business model e.g. free content with ads or a membership site or something else?
i dunno.. if i knew i would never be able to do anything with it, i would probably take the money and run.
You could make the site a directory and charge for listings. You can also have ads on it to make more. If site gets going you could make money and if not sell it after it is ranked. If you think you never will do anything with it then sell it.
I haven't explained myself well. I would PROBABLY do something with it if I could convince myself that it was a worthwhile exercise. Convince me.
Really, you have a KILLER name right there. Load it up with a directory script and add every state/city/ genre of business. Seriously, you could develop it to the point where your directory is like the Yahoo Directory of small business. Id try to develop it. If it doesnt pan out, someone will always be wanting to buy the domain.
