Local apache installation, localhost and Internet connection ?

I am using XAMPP for programming work and many a time when I uses http://localhost and works on it to test my sites, I feels I am using my internet connection i.e. localhost loads very slowly...

I am directly connected to internet so there is no option of bypass proxy thing. How can I make sure that while using localhost apache don't use internet connection ?

    Regards

If you're typing localhost into the browsers address bar it's not routing you through the internet, if that's what you mean.

well I know while using localhost, I won't be using my internet connection but still I am getting the feeling that something is screwed up here. I may be wrong but there is no way to confirm it other than asking here.

What are the specs of the system this is running on, what else do you have going on the system ?

If you're using somthing like Photoshop and or Dreamweaver at the same time that you're testing things, that could be slowing you down depending on the system.

do you have content on your sites/development coming from other sites on the net? do you use a web proxy? do you have "localhost" and "127.0.0.1" listed in your proxy exemptions list?

Unplug your modem but still use "localhost" and see what it does.
Anyway it may be low processer rescourcs..
