LLC vs Local Filing

Considering one or the other for a marketing company, with ultimate goal of obtaining EIN. LLC obviously offers greater protection (which would be nice), but my home state wants $500 to file, with an additional $500 / year to maintain. I've read about filing out of state (Nevada and Delaware were possibilities) but have heard there may be problems (opening bank account in state different then filing, etc).

Looking for opinions and advice. Pros / cons to filing out of state vs in state, places to file out of state, things I should know, what you or those you know have done, etc. I looked into LegalZoom, however, if you want the filing completed sooner then a month, it'll cost you double - I was looking to get this done by the end of the week, not month. Thanks in advance.

I just filed for an LLC in my state today actually and did it myself. I saw the same deal on Legalzoom, but after calling my Secretary of State offices I found out it only takes 3-5 days and cost me $100 so Legalzoom seems to be full of it. I don't know any of the information about out of state filing, but if you goto your states Secretary of State's website you can probably find the forms you need to do it all yourself and a phone number to call for any questions such as how long it takes in your state.
