just curious if anyone here with a basic website has got an LLC. i don't know much about incorporating or any of that. my basic understanding of an LLC is that you get it so that if someone ever sues you they sue a company instead of you personally. does anyone ever actually use these for a simple website? my website i'm trying to get off the ground is a book discussion website. i can't think of any possible way i would get into legal troubles but then again this is america. how much does it costs and what exactly does it do?

Actually, what business you run and the type of business structure you adopt has no bearings on one another.

For more information, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_liability_company

I got my Inc incorporated by http://www.bizfilings.com/ and they do LLC too.

Well, I don't see why you should be sued unless if you provide target the authors of the books and they use you for libel.

An INC or LLC would give you limited liability. The veil can be pierced in certain situations, such as you breaking the law.

An LLC isn't a corporation, it's a hybrid. The big advantage over a corporation is the pass thru taxation. Each company setup has its own pros and cons.

There are tons of we-do-it-for-you sites like the one mentioned above. Those cost a little more, but they are good options for the person not familiar with SoS proceedings and who doesn't want to bother with it all.
