Live using a different algo for US search then other countries?

Lately I've noticed that a few sites I've been watching that used to rank good in .com don't rank good or at all in .com but still rank well in UK and India search. Even my own site has fallen into the same thing. My competitors and my self are in the same boat.

Yes, you are right. But this is in every search engine like yahoo and google.
Different countries, different datacenters, different rankings fluctuations.
I see that for my country (Portugal) and then try via proxy (US), the results sometimes are much much different

Exactly SEO_Jeff. I had a site that were at a portuguese hosting company, but was in english. It was ranked number one for one keyword phrase at the PT search, number five for UK and ES, but in the US didn't appear never. This happened with msn and google. Other site that i had, ranked well in AUS search from msn and also CA, but in the US only 1 month later it ranked well.

Sometimes i don't understand why this happen, but i think it has to do with the keyword/phrase itself and the country of search

This is a newbie question but what is the difference between live.com and msn.com? I thought they are the same SE's but I got completely different results.

Live.com is supposed to be an "evolution" of msn.com . At least in theory!
