Watching senior pastor Joel Osteen (Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas) always inspires me.. his message is something everyone can listen to, regardless of faith, because his positive commentary is infectious.

Tonight’s message from Joel dealt with taking an opportunity each day just to be nice to someone because “someone” can use a “miracle” only you can give.. a kind word, a simple hello, an invitation to dinner.

Why not take a moment to visit the Joel Osteen Lakewood Church website? His message is uplifting and positive.

You don't need to be a Christian to treat another human with kindness. :D

    Barbara Walters interviews Joel Osteen:

You don't need anyone to tell you how to act, if you do, you are simply weak.

I would love to see one of these sites where they don't ask for money. I am glad it inspires you and I have nothing against your religion but sounds like ol' Joel is trying to sell books and get donations. Oh and lets not forget he is selling tickets at $7-10 to see him live! A great profit for the lord!

Maybe so.. but I'm sure a lion's share of that money does go back into doing good for others as well.. I like to think he has a positive message that all can benefit by nonetheless.. you can watch his broadcasts online or on cable for free.

My real reason for posting was to incite others to do a kindness for someone daily.. you might just save a life or give someone the lift they need.

Then give your message not a made for profit preacher's website. People like him cheapens the faith and puts a bad taste on religion for many people.

Well, I wouldn't recommend the guy if I didn't believe that he also believes his message.. I think he's the real deal and bears listening to. Maybe that's my way of "giving" today..

There are some televangelists that might cheapen the faith.. then there are some that manage to get the word out to millions of people because they are televangelists. I mean, you can't fault him for using whatever medium best suits the message.. don't judge him on that basis.

I'm aware of that link.. but I also believe that you need to preach what you believe in and he believes God wants you to live a good life and created us to be happy and prosper.. prosperity doesn't need to be about money.

If you view the video link I posted, he defends his not touching on controversial issues because that's not his "focus".. to me, it's like writing a paper with a certain theme, you don't go off on a taagent.

I don't think people need to hear about hellfire and damnation, people need to hear the good news in the bible.

Then let me give you all freedom from choice, and a new World Empire. Remember, it's not nice to refuse a gift.

Johnny i have to disagree with that statement. Even the most intelligent of human beings can be lead astray because humans alone have shown the propensity to do the most evil, the most dark of acts towards each other.
Im not arrogant enough to think i know it all and i know everything there is to know about how to treat my fellow human being. Without any laws of love we can rationalize almost any act of unkindness or violence to suit our needs. The human heart has shown without any spiritual laws to be capable of the most barbaric acts of violence ever.(hitler, Stalin and others just as example , even though they arent the only ones). True religion can be used for evil means but if followed correctly most religions have a message of peace and truth in them.

Hey dgridley what a truly inspirational message you have provided us with, I truly believe that you don't need to be a Christian to treat another human with kindness. I am volunteering to help the sick and disabled in Lourdes and asked dp members if they would like to sponsor me for this good cause (the link is in my signature to the thread). The initial reply was one of hostility which I believe was because of the Christian connotations related with Lourdes however three people from dp did offer their support as they understood the importance of this sort of volunteering for many peoples lives. I think the message from Joel shines a light upon the attitudes of many people today, being helpful, nice etc is a virtue not just part of religion.
