I'm using Vista and for the past day now messenger has not shown my online contacts and only shows me online. However I have been contacted by several people who told me their status was set as online. To make sure this wasn't a problem on my side I used webmessenger but it had the same problem. Anyone know how to fix? Thanks
that is ridiculous. Go refund your computer. Seriously Vista is terrible. Microsoft can barely give it away. It is a complete disaster and many strange things happen when you have it. Dont bother trying to fix it. Refund your computer!!!
Did you call your PC provider support? ~ Try reinstalling Windows Live. This problem is weird, and I have never faced it. Get a refund or reinstall from your provider.
Listen man! I think you are getting way too excited here... Go to options of MSN/Live Messenger and go to General. Then click on SHOW ALL CONTACTS and your problem will be hopefully solved
You can do! also by going Manage contacts then click on Show Status! Online/Offline It will see you all contacts weather online or offline
Doesn't work. I know it's server side problem as it only shows 3 contacts online even though I have about 20 more online who I rang on telephone to confirm.
Just registered 'cause I've been having the very same problems. I noticed since there's two bots on top of my list that are online 24/7 and they appeared to be off, which struck me as strange... I had 3 to 4 friends online out of shitloads and they all confirmed other people I had added to be online on their pc. I then logged in at meebo.com to see if I had the same problem there and indeed I did (or do), so yeah, I reckon it's the servers that're fucked up, pain in the ass not to be able to do something about it.
That's what I'll do - I'll post the answer in this thread eventhough it is likely that the internets have ceased to exist as has this forum by the time I get a useful answer out of the MS-guys, been there done that...

Try to reinstall it and see if it does any good.. you can try on different computer to see if its fine there
Problem solved. Server error. To fix: Save all your contacts onto your pc. Delete all contacts from your account and live address book Import saved contacts and wait for them to reaccept you
Bit hard if you got 600+ contacts but normally when i have this issue. Find a friend who is online talk to them then go and search there name and it will appear and most the time show the rest
