The following has been added to the "Google AdSense Program Policies" in the "Client Software" section:
"No Google ad or search box code may be pasted into any software application."

    Wonder what triggered this change?

Good spot. That is actually something that has been in the policies since August 2004, but it was to have been removed with the most recent update - dated on page as August 16, 2005 and actually released on the 22nd - I have a copy from them that shows it removed. But it must have been an error that it was removed (maybe someone forgot to put it back in when they were rewording it), since it was put back in without the date on the page being changed.

As for what this covers, I believe it was covering software programs that would use html pages within their programs in order to display AdSense. Kazaa was one that did this before the change, as were many of the .exe style ebook authors.
