Look at OpenCart. Light, feature-rich and easy to use.

Depending on what you have to do with products wordpress is not a bad way to go with woocommerce bolted on.

OpenCart is one of the best useful and user friendly option for you. If you are not satisfied through OpenCart then ZenCart is also best for E-Commerce Platform.

I would the platform which you chosen is great to build e-commerce website, magento might be heavy but no other e-commerce platform is best compared to magento. so why not you go with that itself? and zend coding is difficult but there are easy ways to find out solution you can customize easily.

    packtpub.com >> article>> create-shopping-cart-using-zend-framework-1 you will find this as a great resource.

The best-known free solutions with an open source code include: osCommerce, Prastashop, OpenCart, ZenCart. They all have a long-time history and wide usage. I heard some good comments about the simplicity of Prestashop, but, honestly, never tried it in action.

As another idea, you may look at some simple widget-like solutions (Ecwid is a good example) which can be built into an existing website.
