Lists?

What are your experiences with sending out newsletters? Is it worthwhile to build a list these days?

With thousands of visitors coming to my site daily, I think I'm losing out on making some extra $ by not having a list

    Thoughts?

I would definitely use newsletters. I use them to advertise sales specials to my customers.

I don't email everyone that registers for an account, though. There is a sign up box when a person registers to opt in to the newsletter. That way it won't be considered spam email. GET PERMISSION to send emails!!

Also, newsletters are great, but don't overdo it. I only send out a newsletter once every couple of weeks or so at the most. Usually I send it out more on a monthly basis. No time line set it stone, just have it go out when I am running a good sale.

I hate some websites that constantly send out newsletters or rehash the same thing & send out the same damn email over & over again! There are a couple of sites that send me 1-3 emails a day! Come on - do you think I need that many emails to visit your site!!

Just be sure to keep your newsletter short & sweet and to the point. I put my coupon codes / sales specials at the beginning & any other relevant news after that. Most people don't have all day to read a long email, so keep that in mind when composing your newsletters. Many sites will have a little 'headline' for their articles in the newsletter that will direct the reader to the website if they are interested in reading the whole article. I love this!

I say try it out for awhile & see how it works for you.
