Lists of models

One of the individuals I host and maintain has approached me about adding a page to his site. He sells a specific product that can be used for many models of another product. Basically, the request has been to add a page listing all of the models supported.

There are way too many models to embed in proper text so it would definately have to be a list. He's hoping that someone searching for his product in association with a specific model will find his page at the top of the listings.

Now, I know that isn't going to happen BUT, would it result in a negative effect? Is there a proper way of handling this? Or am I being to vague for anyone to have any clue of what I'm talking about

Completely. Give some background about the site. Shoot I dont even know if you mean like fashion models, model cars or programming models!

Ok..was trying not to "out" the client.

Replacement carpets for classic cars. He wants to list makes/models of cars that he supplies carpets for with a notation to call about the others.

Perhaps I should rephrase the question...

A client sells replacement carpets for cars and would like to be found when someone searches for carpet for a number of specific make/models of cars. As there isn't any unique text to describe carpet for an individual make/model of car, what would be the best way to include the numerous makes/models in his site?

I'm assuming that numerous pages with the same content except for the make/model of car would be a bad idea.

I would guess that this is something ppl do a very specific search for.

So you may want to do a page for each of the makes at least if not models. But as you say vary the pages as much a practially possible.

Even if you do a template page and replace SEO elements like title, keywords, description, headings clustered keywords in 1st paragraph, subsequent headings, alt text, etc.

You could go make = ford, list a sentence for each of the models up to 100 on that page with anchor text linking to the unique page about that model / carpet.

On each or the unique pages link back to the ford page and the home page and all 100 other models with the anchor text. BUT if you have 102 links on the page make sure you have at least 500 words or more on the page which is not linked text. You should rank #1 on carpet for every model. May want to get some IBLs to the Ford page with some PR behind it to make the model pages at least a pr2.

You could separate it into smaller groups of 20 if you can't get as much non-linking text for each page.

Essentially these are 'product pages' moreso than entrance pages, but it should also be the page where ordering can take place... visitor should say 'AH! this is exactly what I was looking for,' and not have to navigate too much further to achieve what they came to do.

I only know html, so I would do it the long way, using library items for most elelments but there may be a fast way of doing all this with php or something like that.

I've done something similar with a section on youth ministry resources on one of our sites: the example of this is here: Youth Ministry Resources

And if each of these pages basically says floor mats, trunk carpet and floor carpet available. Order now.

IOW, pretty much identical, this is acceptable and won't result in penalization?

    Here's how you do it:

    1. Use title/header tags for your products,
    2. Vary the anchor text on your link building for the actual modles/manufacturers.

It'll all combine to allow ranking for all the anchor text/tag combinations. :)

Thanks Dominic and I, Brian. I'll see what I can do about digging some content up for these pages and try it out.
