All my competitors get good search engine rankings. but i am not. is this "www" makes all the difference? Please help!!!

    It doesn't make any difference.
The thing is, you have to be consistent, and use just one of these versions, not both, for the incoming link purposes.

I dont believe having the WWW does make any difference, although some websites do only open with the WWW in place.

How new is your site? If your site is relatively new then maybe it just hasn't been listed yet, and dmoz isn't everything, it will take more than just dmoz to get listed.

    Hope this helps, regards.

The problem is, all other incoming links are pointed to "http://www.mysite.com" and dmoz and clone sites are pointed to "http://mysite.com". I just finished directory submissions with "www". And other niche sites are listed my site with "www" :(

    Site is 7 year old.

its based on the server configuration. Check with your hosting company and they can fix that for you.

use a redirect in .htaccess to point all links to the www.

It will consolidate all your PR to one destination

You should do a 301 redirect, so that your pr is not spread, tecknically it is 2 different url’s for the spiders….

There is a very good resource you can have a read…there is an article about 301 redirects...because i am new to this forum, the forum rules does'nt let me give you the full hyperlinked url....

something like this in htaccess, everything to example.com becomes www.example.com, this will always improve.. and you have less suplemental results..

with www and without www are different thinks. www shows a subfolder on your site like forum.yoursite.com or pictures.yoursite.com

i recommend you to add www in your links

google officially adds the www and non www PR together. so you're ok. the ONLY real issue is the link anchor... what i mean by that is if you have a link on the anchor term CARS, then that's better for PR than a link on www.CARS since google sees the period as a word seperator. it sees 2 words in the anchor and not one. link economy.

google does not automatically assume they're the same. a redirect or going into the google sitemaps tool and telling them that the www/non-www urls are the same are the only ways to "combine" the two.

link to this? I believe he's said in the past that Google will try to automatically figure out 1) if they're the same and 2) if they are the same, which one should rank.

this is not the same thing as having the PR / link popularity consolidate from one to the other. and it's always better to be safe than sorry; a 301 redirect from non-www to www takes two seconds and helps in other search engines as well.
