    Hey there,

I was wondering if listing people's businesses in my website directory is legal?

This is what a business entry looks like: Green Earth Mail

It basically gives a description of the business, locations, address, phone, email, map, logo, and theres a place for reviews.

Do business have to add theirselves for it to be legal?

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

I doubt it because there are a million directories out that that compile information on their own! I would recommend doing what HotFrog did on their site and put a note on there like this:

"How did my business get here?
Your colleagues could have added your business to HotFrog. Also many of HotFrog’s listings have been sourced from crawling publicly available information on the internet." (http://www.hotfrog.com/Faq.aspx)

I think that should cover you in case anyone is wondering how they got there.

I'm going to add my business to your site :)

You should be good as it is all publicly and freely available information.

    Hey there,

    Thanks for the replies.

I am glad to hear that businesses can be added without their permission as it is free information on the net.

    Props for both of ya.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters
