When there's good pizza to be had, word gets around.

Ok, so then, why are you here if marketing is meaningless?

I never said that marketing is meaningless, I said that content is king, and that marketing is also important but less so than content. IMO.

Thats what you said - translates into no reason to market, if you have a good product.

I disagree with your translation. My point was simply that in my experience, if you have the best pizza in town, word gets around - even without active marketing.

I did quote you in context - the line of mine that you quoted was in response to the line of yours that I quoted.

Anyhow, the bottom line is that we both are saying the same thing in that neither marketing nor content alone is satisfactory - you need both. We disagree in that you think that marketing is more important than content, while I maintain that content is more important than marketing. There's no "right" answer - it's a matter for debate.

Calm down kids it's Satuuuurday night :) (well in GMT it is), they are both important, quality content gets links which is marketing whilst quality marketing can and does assist in getting quality content. IMO you need both to get the ball rolling and like cartoon head says :), there is no wrong answer, you're both right.

its a chicken and egg thing. content is very important - because you have to have a reason for people to come to a site.

Marketing is just as important because if people dont find the site all the content in the world wont make that sucessful.

Which is more important is a toss up - But basically we're saying the same thing - your right.

Persistance is key. Many quit too soon and put too little effort into developing and MARKETING their site. :D
