So after waiting about 3 months I was finally listed in google under my primary keyword. However, like most people, I'm trying to get listed on page 1 of the results for my primary keyword (right now I'm on pg. 6). If I were to search that keyword and acess my site through google, would it improve my ranking? For example: every time I want to view my site, I go to google, type in my keyword, go to page 6, and click my link.
Nope that will not improve your rankings in the SERPs. You have not gave enough informations so we could help you. Tell us what so far you have done for your site, what is your site and what keywords you target, that way we can see if you have missed something which would help you rank higher in the SERPs.
This things has nothing to do for you to be on top.. Anyway, tell us what are the things you do in order to get listed and appear into page 6? so far, what are the techniques you used for the improvement of your serp? I am asking you this because if we will going to explain to you all the things and you yourself don't know the basic elements in doing seo, you will not going to understand this at all.. Go back to the basic, like reading those seo articles and so on.. good luck!
What are the keywords are you using. I though of searching by them...I think you can play with google adwords to experement with your keywords & to improve your rank.

Try to add more content to your site to get to page 1 in google.Use SEOELITE keyword tool to find which keywords are mostly used per day to search in google according to your site,and then put those keywords in your Meta description tag to improve Site traffic.
