Hi guys I thought alexa used dmoz data for its directory, i am in dmoz but not on the alexa directory is there a simple reason for this ? Woc
I don't know anything about alexa, but just speaking in general, I would think that all entities would crawl multiple sources for new sites, not depend solely on just one, like the ODP. I know myself, that I've found sites using Google search that aren't even listed in the ODP. Editors aren't limited to one source, like the submitted site suggestion pool, they can find them anywhere. Way too much weight is given to an ODP listing. I think the biggest benefit is that so many entities download our data and outsource it from their own sites, that it has a spiderweb effect, but as long as you're on any part of that spiderweb, eventually you'll be on all of it, no matter where you started from. Perhaps the biggest appeal is starting closer to the middle where it can spread in all directions at once.
Alexa has nothing to do with dmoz.. they look directly at your site. You know you can setup a profile on alexa for your site. Make sure you don't block their bot. ODP is certainly given to much weight... it meant something maybe a few years ago, but not today. Same deal with Alexa .... there are other traffic metrics out there that are much more accurate that professionals use.
