I'm interesting in finding the most successful and consistent monetization strategies for content sites.

Here are the ones I've tried:

Adsense - Most consistent, would highly recommend

Clickbank - Have made some good affiliate sales, I'd say it is reasonably good

Amazon - Didn't make crap! Spent a lot of time trying web services, got low commissions

AuctionAds.com - Haven't really tried it yet, but looks like it could be interesting with the right strtegies (i.e. targetting high ticket items)

Selling links on your site - My sites don't have such high PR, so not sure about this.

Commission Junction - Didn't make crap (but didn't try too hard...just a little confusing I thought and low commissions)

Yahoo Ads (the adsense type thing) - Applied like 2 yrs ago but got rejected and never heard back :(

That's about my list of ones I've tried (also tried some independant info product sellers with some decent rates, such as autoresponder services, or copywriting product)

What monetization strategies have you tried?

Kontera - Relatively low RPC but a high CTR, but removing it does not seem to increase AdSense clicks anyways. It's a good alternate source of cash.

WidgetBucks - Good CTR and RPC seem to rival AdSense

Bidvertisers - VERY low CTR, I got 10 clicks in 20000 visitors. I don't use them anymore

AdBrite - A very good CPM advertiser.

I'm not sure if this thread will work as just because one site may have worked out well for your site doesn't mean it will work for others. About 80% - 95% of all affiliate programs on the web can be used and can work with monetizing a websites traffic, it's just how you use it, how you work with it, your sites niche, etc.

Hasn't there been a dozen other threads just like this, listing various affiliate programs?

Well I was hoping for the comprehensive thread on website monetization.

I did a search but didn't find any great ones...It would be nice at the end of the thread to compile a list of 30-100 ways to monetize your website and have some honest feedback about different people and their experiences with the program.

Obviously, experiences would differ, but I still think it would be useful to here individual perspectives on the major different monetization strategies.

Selling links on your site - My sites don't have such high PR, so not sure about this.

---> google is penalizing sites because of that. This is a NO NO in this days.

Commission Junction - Didn't make crap (but didn't try too hard...just a little confusing I thought and low commissions)

---> it depends on the niche and on the site/blog, for me works very well

Can you tell anything more about CJ? What, where the products you were promoting really high ticket items? Did you develope some sort of script to sell more efficiently?
