A lot of these plans aren't suitable to run big sites from, but they do provide enough RAM and disk to play around with in order to learn how to set up servers, do backups, host small files, etc... Hopefully some of you will find the list useful. Feel free to add hosts that qualify. No affiliate links, and don't promote your own company. A2 Hosting 128 megs of ram -- $11 / month ($10.23 really, i'm just rounding up) VPS Village 64 megs of ram -- $6 128 megs of ram -- $11 RapidXen 128 megs of ram -- ranging from $6 to $10 per month depending on amount of swapspace Neosurge 128 megs of ram -- $7 / month 256 megs of ram -- $14 / month VPS Link 64 megs of ram -- $8 per month Cheap VPS 128 megs of ram -- $10 / month Ram Host 80 megs of ram -- $3 128 megs of ram -- $6 192 megs of ram -- $8.50 Burst.net 512 megs of ram -- $6 1 gig or ram -- $10
Have you tried anyone of them? How was your experience with there support and billing? How was the uptime?
I have experience with VPSLink and VPS Village., and I know many others who have had experience with A2 Hosting, Cheap VPS, and Ram Host. RapidXen and Neosurge have at least a few reviews out there. Burst.NETs VPS service is very new, I think it just launched a couple of weeks ago. But their prices are insane. I've never seen a VPS with 1 gig of RAM for $10. There's a thread about them over at webhosting talk that seems to say good things overall.
A2 Hosting 128 megs of ram -- $11 / month ($10.23 really, i'm just rounding up) it's earlly very cheap, but with 128mb RAM, what'll you do? just upload files for downloading directly, not run any site?
It could run a site with apache, if it were optimized. Lighttpd would work with no extra configuration, with enough room left over for PHP. You could also use a small VPS as a personal VPN server, or backups, which is what I do.
Hi! Certainly no room for Cpanel..that's for sure. I'd doubt you could use it to re-compile Apache if you wanted..it should be possible..but it depends on kmem allocations to the kernel if or if not that would be possible. Most of the time....not. It just depends. Bottom line: If you have certain needs or have a project or certain use in mind..always be clear and upfront with a provider. This always helps you avoid any problems down the line...sometimes. I never go with the cheapest..anyways. Never. Sometimes you get a lot less than what you pay for...sometimes more. Never let price be your only guide. Bryon
