How did you manage attracting users to your site in the beginning?

I am trying to do this..

 

I ran a few contests and offered reward points to the members for participation. When they had enough reward points they can redeem them to different things like Paypal Money, free hosting or domain registration etc. Which generated good traffic and encouraged members to participate.

This is how I got new members and posts in the beginning.

 

Free hosting can be a key OR you can develop diffrent webmaster tools.
