I do know what you mean about dead wood. A month or so ago I pored through a list of 3000 directories and found a lot of them were 404, now paid, abandoned, or just low quality. I found only a very small selection which met my quality standards & which I thought might be suitable for my list. (I test every directory before adding it to the list linked below.) However, don't paint every list with the same brush. They are not all basically the same. My list (link posted in my previous post) isn't just a list of free directories. It is carefully selected to focus upon quality. Sites are added regularly and deleted if they fall below our standards or go paid. The list is constantly refined & there's no dead wood in it. best, Denise
We do daily submissions and I figure the churn must be around 30%. After six months you are lucky if you are left with 10% of the sites you start with. I have also found that if you dont get accepted within the first 30 days the chances are that its not going to happen. I try to get in as soon as the sites are announced. At this stage its impossible to tell which are quality and which are not and to me its simply a question of which directories will stay the course and whether they bury my links or not. But who can predict how many will fold once the penny drops that there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We are just going to have to wait and see.
I really like ADD URL, it suits my needs. I like the inbuilt submit function, so you're already navigated to the submit page, without having to go through every navigation etc. Meti
If you look at the Submissions thread the first post is a record of the all the changes that have taken place between updates. Its will also give you an idea of how difficult it is to stay abreast of the changes and why IVS is still the best list to use.
