I found that many members are having their own directories. They are mentioned here at this thread, http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65

I feel if information’s presented in a better manner it will give a glimpse of the quality directories fellow members have created. This will force a visitor to glued to the information provided and attract more submissions.

Below are the points I like every one if include in every post:

    1. Title of the directory.
    2. Owned by [DP member name]
    3. Age of directory.
    4. General or Niche [directory accepting all sites are general and directories accepting only specific sites are niche i.e Pet’s directory, Health directory and so on.]
    5. Geographic location. [This will also include that the directory is accepting link from any specific geo locations.
    6. Require a reciprocal link or not.
    7. Free or Paid Directory.
    8. Few words about your directory and the inspiration for running a directory site.

I hope this is enough information. Suggestions are welcome from the fellow DP members to add any other information’s.

    Cheers!

Honestly: having seen a lot of the directories from members, I don't think it's that great of an idea.

:) I can see a nice directory under your signature.

In the forum Catagory called "Directories" is having around 130 pages. What I am insisting that if every directory owner post their information in the manner stated above will give more professional look.

This way we can create a database of directories according to their Niche.

It will still be the same if all the members post their directory details here in this thread.

How is that any different than a thread in the correct category about it?

    Hi Shawn. :)

Thanks for your question and a belated happy b’day to you.

I am trying to explain this a bit more:

Its presentation of information’s which pulls a visitor to do some action. Currently each thread is having a different type of information, some may have brief info or some may have detailed info.

Now my point is, if every one present the information in a given format will attract greater audience and help people who are in search for a chunk of list that has detailed and quality information’s.

    Benefits:

    1. The post will look more professional and attract more submissions to the directory.

    2. Submitter will be able to sort out directories as per its niche, PR value, Age Value and other things.

    3. Since it will be every one’s contribution it can be a storehouse of information about directories divided into categories of it’s niche. Later we can add other web directories too.

This will help many who look for information’s on where to submit there site’s, very few people prepare and update their database; here they will find everything under one Category or a single thread.

Thanks and excuse me in advance for my bad English. :D

Yess! Thats a million $$ question. Here are some suggetsions:

    1. It should be the reasonable responsibility of the directory anouncer to update his/her post with fresh informantion.

    2. We can add a link called. "report bad link here" that will help to some extent.

    3. User's are the best teachers, If some one found the information incorrect, he will report a change request. they may be a submitter or user :)

    4. Some DP members may take their heads up and report bad links time to time.

More suggestions towards this are welcome :D

Thanks :) But what I'm worried about is all the fighting over who gets his directory in. Many here have virtually empty "directories" full of adsense.

Why does it have to have anything to do with Digital Point? Someone can maintain their own list without us.

Whoever does it and takes charge ... good luck. You will need quite a few serious volunteer editors with a thick skin :)
