Yes, just check that the links are direct (most of them are) and not redirect or nofollow links

 

Thank you for the list. Pardon me for being a little slow but can you expound on this a little. Are you saying that some directories would not create backlinks for you.

Maybe I'm even confused on what a backlink is. I'll have to search do a search.

 

This is great job and I can certainly understand how exhaustive it is to compile and maintain this list.

I have another question though....
Now we have list and if I want to submit to these directories it will take forever for me to submit manually. Is there a simple script in php or cgi which can automate this task i.e. you just submit url and directory list and rest will be taken care of automatically.

I am mainly blogger, never submitted to directory so excuse me if this sounds absolutely foolish.

No worries about that if you can make a master list of directories i can give a master directory submission to the list you made and send back a report with the categories listings where your website was submitted to
This way you can easily know which directories are paid

Roboform can do things semi-automatically, it fills in your info for you rather than having to type it all out each time. To my knowledge there's nothing that will complete the whole job automatically.

The vast majority do. Some deliberately make their links so they can't be spidered by a search engine. I'd be surprised if you find too many of those though.

You might as well do mine while you're at it. Another 50 won't make much difference

 

sure .. ermm if i live long enough, that should take me some 80 years any way

I have a massive list of directories also in a spreadsheet. Matt, a tip for you with regard checking for dead links (assuming you are not already doing it. Copy and paste the entire list onto a page of html, then use linksleuth to check for broken or dead links. (set to check external links). Works for me LOL

Then again, as you have them all on a single page you must already be doing that

 

Might you consider making that available along the lines of Vilesilencer?
