I have abit of a silly question, but when you add your site to these directories, do you backlink to them from your site too? Please be kind as i am new to this

Have you ever noticed that these directories fall into two categories?

    1. Directories that are very hard to get into (like dmoz.org) or paid, and have good PR.
    2. Directories that are very easy to get into, and have not so good PR. Often sub-pages don't even have any PR at all.

I suspect that getting your site into a lot of directories in the 2nd category may be a lot of wasted effort.

NB To answer GameSquat.com: you can backlink to them but that will make it a reciprocal link, which is (even) less useful. So I wouldn't put any effort into getting into directories that demand backlinks.

generally agreed. high free pr directories are often quite rightfully picky about their submissions, or else with paid directories there is the fee and sometimes for pr 5 and pr 6 sites it can be a good bit of change.

thanks for the several lists, dudes! i like to do directory submissions.

thank you for the list. it is good when domains are fresh, but don't expect much - the entry pages hardly get any PR at all. you're better with targeted comments on blogs, me thinks...
