I read all about list building and how great it can be. Last year I put a lot of work into developing the free product, opt in page, follow up sequence but it was in the weight loss industry. Every time I read about list building through ebooks they say do ad swaps and solo ads. Well this can be a good method in the IM niche but I didn't see anywhere to do this for non-IM. For instance I found a few solo ad sites but they ended up being trash. Ad swaps for weight loss were even harder to find. I was able to build my list to about 50 people but it was through paid advertising and the people weren't really responsive (I admit there are probably things I can improve in my process). Are there any other methods people use with success for non IM list building?
What has helped me is forums/squeeze pages. This is not just limited to the IM niche (obviously). You basically go to a forum related to your niche. Then you can either make a thread about a free offer you're giving away or simply put it in your signature. On the other side of that you are provided with a squeeze page where they opt-in to receive your free offer. Misguided people shun such a tactic because they want everything quick and easy. Good things take time.
I agree that forum traffic in your niche is a very good source. Another source is finding good e-zines in your niche and sending solo ads to that list. That way you know you are sending an offer (paid or free) to a targeted list.

Thanks..I think the ezine approach is a good way for me to build my list. I haven't incorporated it but after looking at some ezines in my weight loss niche I think I could benefit from that route. Unfortunately the forum method in the weight loss niche is a tough way to go. Most all of them look at you as spam and/or don't allow you to add a signature to your post.
