had anyone used the "linkwheel" strategy and found it useful?
    By "linkwheel" I mean:
Linking from article on website A
    to article on website B
that links to a post / video on website C

I was creating link wheels back in 2005, without even knowing it. It got my Squidoo lens on the first page of Google for Make Money Online, right in between ProBlogger.net and JohnChow.com. Do link wheels work? Absolutely!

I believe that the effectiveness of link wheel depends on how an SEO Practitioner will link build each sites that form the link wheel.

They work, but might not be worth the time / risk involved. If you do link building to other sites that host your links those sites or even pages can get redirected / bugged / parked or devalued as a whole. The best strategy is always to link directly to your main website from numerous sources. They will build themselves up, boosting your link without you having to create elaborate networks of links.

Here in Indianapolis, Indiana I work in a highly competitive market and so I need any edge I can get. But the time it would take to construct an effective linking wheel might be lost if the search engines are eventually able to detect it and recognize it as artificial, assuming they haven't already. I'm not sure I'd place too much stick in it.

Why should those sites get devalued? I don't get it.
Isn't it natural to link between all kinds of sources/websites (including web 2.0 platforms)?
If it's natural (and not over-used) I think it might do some good, don't you think?
Had you tried it yourself and found it too much time consuming comparing to the results?
and regarding "The best strategy is always to link directly to your main website from numerous sources" -
the link wheel does it also...

Yes, link wheels really work. There are dangers, but not the ones commonly freaked out on most forums.

Link Wheels, are links all pointing to your main site, utilizing the webs best resources, and provide them with content that they seek. But using web 2.0 properties, your hard work will be deleted. buy aged, high PR domains. Turn them into wordpress blogs, and post articles on them with anchor text links pointing to your money site. Just make sure they are on different C Class IP's or you'll run into trouble.

It is worth a try buddy trust me:)
The key with link wheels is to have contextual (related articles) to what your anchor text is talking about. I suggest to use your own sites, hosted on different C Class IP's, or use Web 2.0 sites, if you don't mind the risk of being deleted, and having to start over.
