If I do a search in Google for my site it shows loads of pages of sites that link to my site

When I look in Google webmaster tools it shows zero

    Can anyone explain this ?

The link: www.example.com that you may be using in Google, Yahoo, etc, tends to be a bit different from the links that would display within Google Webmaster Tools.

Usually Google Webmaster Tools is a much better representation, as link: is only a "snapshot" of the available backlinks.

As to why it may not be showing anything in Web tools, not knowing anything about the site you're talking about, I suspect that it's because the site hasn't been indexed or possibly that Webmaster Tools is a bit delayed.

Just keep building quality, related backlinks. It'll workout for you.

    Thanks for reply

My site is a couple of months old now and was indexed in Google about 6 weeks ago

Google webmaster tools has visited my site lots of times since then

If I do a search fo freegraphicscentre in Google it shows 13 pages of links

Am I missing something or do I need to do something different ?

Webmaster tools has been experiencing some issues lately. Many people have the same problem with 0 backlinks in webmaster tools. Mine were gone for about a month, then mysteriously came right back, along with other problems. Not much you can do except chill, and go back to making links, improving your sites, or what ever it is that you do.

I wouldn't worry too much, especialy since theres nothing you can do about it anyway.

Google webmaster tool actually shows the real thing google know or see about your site. These are the actual no. of links google considers about your site.

backlinkwatch.com is very good to check out, you need to have patience while it analyze back links for your website,

and wait for few days, google webmaster tools, will update for your website, and than you can see exact no. of back links pointing to your site.
