Links to my site but not coming up as backlinks?

There are few sites that link to mine.

When I use Backlink Checker however, they do not appear?

    Any reasons why not?

Either the page your backlink is on hasn't been indexed, (very common with directory links) or the backlink checker you are using isn't complete.
For Google you need to be registered with WebMaster tools to see your backlinks, you won't see them any other way.
The best guide to what backlinks any search engine has found and indexed is yahoo site explorer.

depends on what the search engine the software utilizes to check the backlinks. NO search engine is going to reveal all of your backlinks to your site because that would jepordize their algorithm. To date the best way to check 80% of your backlinks is to use google. in the search box type:

    site: your site goes here

How many days have past after you put those links in your site and did a check using the backlink checker tool? If you check it already after you put the links of others to your site it would not really show up because the backlink checker tool mostly is not that accurate. Just wait and you can see those links after a week or a couple of days. Don't worry the backlink is made as long as you put it in your site :)

That's the worst way to look for your backlinks. Google only shows a small sample of your links as a matter of policy, certainly not 80%.

Yahoo is the most complete way.

    Two reasons:

They might not yet be indexed by google.

    They might be no-follow links.

Thanks for all those informative answers.

So what other links, does Google not like indexing?

For example, if there was a link to "ABC Company Website" on this website, would it get indexed?
