Wikipedia has strict policy on external links. They keep mostly .edu .gov .org and .int. My .com link along with many other .coms were removed after a few days.
Sooner or later, they'll use nofollow on all external links. It's only a 30-min hack to the wiki script to do that. It's been debated formally (i lost the link) whether wiki should apply rel=nofollow or not.
Even if they apply no follow, a link would still be usefull. Wikipedia gets millions of visits per day. If our content is reliable we can still get decent traffic. Also people who come to wikipedia come searching for something. So ads on our site may appeal to them and we may get a high CTR. Aditya
If they add a nofollow it will mean they have lost the plot totally. Nofollow is for links that have not been editorially verified and wikipedia has some of the strictest editors around. Add your site and watch how long it lasts if you dont believe me.
Wikipedia can drive lot of traffic. Getting listed is a bit difficult unless its a truely infomative link related to the page your are trying to add.
I have about half a dozen good links on Wikipedia. The thing that keeps them up is that the pages are informative and very on target to the wiki page where I listed them. I have not found that the links from Wikipedia are helping me in the SERPs, but I have found that I get plenty of good unique visitors that surf over from the wiki pages. Some of my pages get all of their traffic from wiki. The other value is that I have gained a few links that I believe are due to people finding my pages on Wikipedia.
How about sharing some insight on it? I will try your ideas, and if the links stay on for long time I will even dance for ya
I have a site that was laser targetted to the Wiki entry and completely relevant. I added some info to the Wiki page that was well-researched and dead on. I then added a link to a portion the site that was completely relevant. It was gone within 8 hours with the Wiki changelog saying "spam link removed." I don't know whether to be angry at the anal-retentive wiki editor or to be angry at spammers in general for making them over-cautious but it does suck. I did get 22 uniques in that short amount of time, though.
After reading these post about Wikipedia I went and looked to find were to set up a link and could not fine a page were this could be done so I would appreciate it if someone would give me the address of the page were keyword can turned in for linking.
Exactly. I have debated the editors and asked why they took down the links I put up, especially since the links were to good content relevant to the sections. I contributed several sections to Wikipedia back when it was first starting several years ago and every link I have ever put there has been taken down. I don't get it. It seems like those crazy editors can just do whatever they want under the ruse of being "by the people, for the people" and their choice is being given tons of credibility (not to mention traffic) from the SEs.. One editor told me very recently that I should take the content from my client's site and just put it on Wikipedia instead of them linking to the content pages on my client's site.
At the bottom of the article or you can add in the middle of the article with your keyword. And if not a link, just type out plain text like this (Ref: http:// blah blah . com)
Yeah but Wiki deletes just about all links or content even if they are revalant and not used for spam purposes. It seems that only corporate sites are allowed. That may not be true but every large sites or articles that were submitted by people I know or myself have all been deleted. That is especially annoying after you have taken the time to write an in depth entry. To answer your question though I believe that it does improve SEO since I once had an article written about me on Wiki and a couple of months later the page wiki linked to had a PR of 4 and anytime I search content from my page the Wiki entry was on the index page of the search results (before it was deleted for insane reasons of course)
I looked on Wikipedia and could not find a place to set up what you all are talking about. Please give me the domain name of the page and an idea of were it is on the page to set up links and keywords.
