According to some SEOs links on Wikipedia are like gold... I have tried adding links to terms that a related to my site, but it seems just after I edit a terms page, someone changes it and takes my link off... How important is a Wikipedia link? If it is important, then how do you get a link to stay on Wikipedia?
I gather that a link on wikipedia would be very good. As for getting the link to stay it must be completely relevant and useful/helpful.
I have a few links on wikipedia. It's hit and miss. Like above though, you must have something VERY relavent to the area you are getting the link from.
So the difficult part is for sites that are offering a service... e.g. Gardening, so you add a link to a gardener...
Well I also added my links but it was deleted so can you please tell me how I can make my links to stay there for a long time. I heard people saying that adding articles can guarantee that but how?
People just come behind and delete them, even when you just link to solid content sites on relatively obscure articles. It's really not worth wasting your time when someone can just come along and wipe out your efforts.
I have like 5 links on wikipedia all PR6 and getting a lot of traffic from wikipedia. I won't tell you which links so editors won't delete them
i would love to see an example of how you put your links on there? i tried to do it, and wikipedia deleted them almost immediately. i have a retail site. makes it difficult to be listed on there.
I doubt you will be able to link to a retail site. Wikipedia is about information. If the site you link to has valuable information on that specific topic, then the link stays.
I have had a few on there for weeks at a time, until someone with a burr up their ass removed it. That's the way it works, if enough people feel it needs to stay, it will be added or the opposite it will be removed. Other than offering good quality backlink and little traffic, it's nothing you can't live without.
if link is very related it may live a few weeks, but usually most of them gets deleted sooner or later.
Wikipedia is about information. If you find a relevant article on Wikipedia then why do people need your link? You write up a controversial article (something contradicting the existing information on the Wiki - now that is new info) about the topic, submit it on article directories, once these articles are picked by SE crawlers on some of the article directories, then add a link pointing to the article (either to one of the well known directories or to the article page on your site) This way your chances of maintaining the link will increase although not guaranteed. This is just one way of getting a link from Wikipedia.
I've been getting a decent amount of traffic from all my Wikipedia links to my various sites. I highly recommend you do so. It's good to have a nice looking site and a page on your site that is laser targetted to the page, not generally related. Wikipedia has been getting some great rankings for all sorts of keywords, so if I were you, I'd make sure you had a decent article on your site about the keyword page you want to be on and then add yourself.
