you don't, unless you're a credible source that originally put out the information, ie a news company, an university, a medical study group, or the company that created the product wikipedia is not for free advertising towards your own personal site which you hope to make money with adsense with.
I have two links from wikipedia. One I didn't put there and it's been there a long tim. Brings in lots of members to my forum too Another one I added myself about 3 weeks ago. My site has no ads of any kind and the best content on the web on that subject... Try to kae money off of wikipedia and you'll fail miserably. They really do like the spirit of contributing.
Interesting. One of my sites has a half dozen links from Wikipedia. Over the years, I think it's given me a few visitors, but not so much that I noticed it as a viable place for traffic. Quesiton: Do they check the person who submits the links/edits content with the site being submitted for external links?
they check everything, the goal of wikipedia is to become a credible, user created and edited resource.
I have a site with 2 wikipedia links, on 2 different subjects. Not a big change in traffic, and I cant verify if its helped pagerank.
Are yours any more or less relevant? If he just reverts your edit 3 times, you need to go into arbitration. It sounds like neither site, no offense, is crucial to the article. PM me for more if you want.
An update... my Tetris Attack PC site is still where I put it, and traffic to that site is still very, very poor. Could be because only so many people geek out about Tetris Attack, and search for every site about it that Google can find, like I do.
THANK YOU! I hope everyone doesnt ruin wiki for those of us who use it sparingly, and only for linkiing to highly relevant and original content.
you are exactly right - guaranteed that very few actually search this. Also - how long have you been linked there? took my link a while to take off, but when it did, it was good. Aslo, i got tons of traffic from the link in wiki.
can you not join wiki, and make a case to ban that webmaster? if someone is deleting relevant content, wiki would consider that "vandalism" and ban the user. If you look in to this, let us know how you get on.
About one month... The site is my best-performing one now with about 10 hits a day on average... but I'm not sure if they're from tetrisattack.net/forums or from wikipedia because I don't know how to see referrers
..*cough* you dont know how to track referrers? This is ESSENTIAL to any webmaster! What technology is your site written with? do you use a db? let me knwo, and i'll give you help with this
Apache technology is running my sites. My db's are all of my own design... 'cause I couldn't get mysql working. I wouldn't have a clue how i would've started with it anyway. Ow! I cut my finger. Anyways i have alot more experience programming like ini-file sort of things so i just did it... anyone else use text files or their own db code?
apache - so your pages are done in PHP? if so, check this out: http://www.scriptdungeon.com/script.php?ScriptID=2286 it is a free php script for tracking where all of your visitors come from. I have not used this, since I build everything in vbscript and .asp, but if you don't like this one, a simple google search will yeild many others,... once you have this in place, you will be able to see where the majority of your visits are coming from, and work harder at promoting that channel, instead of wasting time on channels that barely send you anyone. Without some sort of tracking, you'll likely be wasting a lot of time! hope this helps!
Regarding how to get backlinks from Wikipedia, you just choose to edit the relevant article - no need to register. Wiki has been a great help to my ranking - integral, really. Also try using multiple articles. I would also mention that a lot of other premium encyclopedias have encountered difficulty competing with the wikis, and have therefore opened up editing to the general public as well...so check out a few of the other big-name encyclopedias in case it may be relevant to your subject.
yeah, wiki is integral for me as well. By the way - which other editable encyclos are you refering to? i did a goog search andcoudlnt find any
