Here is my two cents... the idea of building your main page with links to individual celeb pages makes sense the way you explain it. The others posting here also have a very good point. If I were writing the page, i'd do so as follows: lets say the full page (above the fold) is 100%. 10 percent will be for usual homepage items - logo images/text, copyright, search, sign-in or whatever else... Id take at LEAST 35 percent, and have a content blurb - text, not pictures. perhaps a bit about what your site sets out to provide, or perhaps keep fresh celeb gossip/articles there. THEN.. Id take 10 more percent, perhaps a left hand side, or right hand side menu - and pull your most popular celeb's and list them perhaps about 20-25 or so... - similar to how apple itunes lists their most popular downloads. (notice their homepage isnt just full of links to all of the artists...) Then, with the rest of the space, i'd have headings for each letter - a-z, (as links to a "letter" page") and list under that, the most popular 4-5 from that letter) Hope this helps...
It does help, thanks I was thinking of doing a 'celeb of the week' thing too with some text about the celeb.
Sorry! You said: "I was thinking of doing a 'celeb of the week' thing too with some text about the celeb." ...and since we were discussing the layout of your homepage: I agreed with you in saying: "that would be a perfect homepage content block! A 'content block" is a division of a page, where content is placed. A web page can hanve multiple content blocks.
