    Something ive been wondering about for a while. Do links at the top of the page get given more value by google?

    Under the theories of 'page segmentation' and 'block level analysis' - Editorial (main content ) links are the most valuable followed by side panels and footer/header link are devalued the most

    A link on the top site get you more exposure and certainly more clicks than a bottom link. With a top, top left or right link, you are advertising on the site and you get the SEO benefits too, a bottom link is only good for SEO and will get you less traffic.

    Link value aside. I do not think Search Engines will allocate more weightage to these links..

    Google got smarter and smarter, I would not be surprised to find out that they did implement an algo for this. Usually, webmasters sell links in the bottom of the page, this would help Google to place less weight on bought links.

    Would be interesting to test this.

    You can also search out these 3 patents;

    Methods and apparatus for the evaluation of aspects of a web page
    Presentation of search results based on document structure
    Document segmentation based on visual gaps

    There is a ton out there really… just gotta ‘search’ for it…

    lol, good reminder, the word "where" has to be kicked out of our vocabulary.

    I think when you advertise....depending on the bid amount.... you get a cut out of that. So the more an advertiser bids on... let's say you are at $4 a click you cut a percentage. I could be wrong. Somedays I get a lot out of one click.

    i think top placement is important only for the owner (as the visitor sees it).
    google doesnt care about the placement

    Well said. Top placement is just a method to get more attention from visitors.
