I was just wondering if anyone has seen if placing a link inside say an H1, will that give more weight to the importance of that link?

Pretty sure theirs some sort of penalty that may be given for such things. Besides, even if it does work it'll dilute the importance of the <heading> tags for the rest of the page.

Do not link inside header tags. H1, H2 etc are meant for the theme on that page, not for themes on other pages. I'd not do it. I think cutts spoke to h1 linking on his blog too.

If the header linked to more content about that topic, and the header was being usd as a header, surely this would be OK? So I can't see it having a bad effect - unless it was overused and spammy.

I don't see it being bad. It seems to look good on the page and I am thinking it may improve rankings, I am testing it.
