Links in Google News

Google News is "beta" I realize, but I was wondering if links picked up by Google and others that are in the "news" sections of engines have a potentially postive affect on a site's SERP?

Would links from here have a good weight and be considered "authoritative" and hence relevant?

Are they helping only the news source that is cited or does it do any good for the webiste/company in which the story relates to?

My guess is that it's initially only helping the webiste where the story is published (i.e. AP, PRNews, etc.), but it seems that there would be a residual benefit to the actual website the story centers around.

    Your thoughts please ...

Have you ever seen an external link from a news source on news.google.com?

I have a site in Google News and have never seen any direct link popularity benefits because of it.

I realized I kind of answered my own questions as I asked them, but it's nice to get a "second set of eyes" for confirmation - thanks!
