    Hi All,

With regards to links in forum signatures, most people seem to agree that they are well worth doing. However I have come across several lines of though on them. I wondered what people think of the following.

    1) Is there a maximun number of links from one forum before they become less worthy. Eg should you say develop links on one forum to 2000 (random number) and then focus on building signature links elsewhere, or should you just continue to build links as you would use the forum normally.

    2) Should you change the links in your signature from time to time? Someone suggested to me that, google/spiders eventually get bored of the links and considers them to be spam. He has the idea that by chaging the links every 3 months spiders see new links, and go "oh interesting" and then wonders off to look at them.

He suggest that the old links, are in old threads which are now not active so google knows about them but wont revist the old threads, so in theory the links will stay the same (on the old threads) in the spiders eyes. Then you change the links in your signature and google only see's this in the new active threads.

So whats your opinions on all this???????????????

I cannot say for certain where Google is concerned but think this not to be the case.

Where there is constant updated and fresh content there'll be a search engine crawling it and indexing it.

As for changing the links in your signature, if you take a look at how big DP forums is then I guess you would need to get 1000s of members here to do this to make a real difference.

you should be building link like normal webmaster are doing. If you would stop on building some back links then Google might get suspicious and penalize your site.

Its true that Google has own phenomena to cache a particular site time to time but regarding forums I think its better idea to make cache your site quickly than google procedure. Additionly its a way to get one way link as well.

This is true. the best way to build links is to do what you'd normally do.

What do you think would happen if every DP member had a sig link back to DP for a few months?

Would it effect DP's SERPS or PR?

Be interesting to see what'd happen.

Link age should be taken into account. Granted, a an old thread may never be looked at again by the bots that be, but what happens when the thread gets bumped?

And remember, Forum Link Building tips (it's not just your signiture!) :D

Thanks guys, its an interesting point my friend makes about changing signatures and do we keep them the same. I take your points.

With regards to the point about if you stop creating links we may get penalised? So what happens if you stop using the internet for a certain length of time? Say you go traveling, does google really penalise you for suddenly not posting new links, do your old links become less relevant. Or is it just that they become old and new people add new links?
