I like the idea, would make sig's more interesting to look at if people had like 100 different sites preloaded for random dispatch. Dynamic Sigs wonder if they actually exist on someones board somewhere?
that's a neat idea, actually, assuming that is the sort of "cap" that's being hit... but I still believe that sig links really aren't worth much compared to regular quality site links. it isn't just that I don't see any benefit from new posts, I'm just never saw much of a benefit in the first place. as far as "getting around" the methods they could use to filter things, sure, it's possible. but how many boards are doing this? keep in mind, the owner of the board would have to, not the poster/user. and beyond that, you're not ALLOWED to remove the copyright notice on most boards.
I don't know why links in forum messages and links in forum message signature didn't count in my tests. I only know that I tested with eight different web forums and the results were that neither links in message signature nor links in messages themselves provided any keyword relevancy. The forum posts show in in Google results for the magic keywords -- yet the pages to which the links point do not appear anywhere in Google results for the magic keywords. You can run the tests for yourself by following the instructions at: Do forum signature links help PageRank and SERPS? Do forum message body links help PageRankand SERPS? I would love to know how Google filters out these links, but I honestly have no idea. The tests have been running since 10 July, which has given Google plenty of time to find these links and use them to assign relevance. The impact of this on the DigitalPoint ad network never occurred to me. I hope you are correct that footer links in forums are not filtered, because I have quite a few of those and because they would negatively impact the DigitalPoint ad network.
At the very least it has to help your PR which helps your overall SERP. It certainly can't hurt....can it?
Exactly... and keep in mind that the filter than dampens link power from any given ip (or site) will kick in, so really, the links will only carry so much weight, especially since not many forums actually pass PR to their threads for months and months...
Interesting thread, I really liked the discussion. my next question qould be, is there anything different between the sig links, and that link that describes my latest blog? Can I use that to my advantage as well?
In my experience, Google does respect links in forums, even sig links. Great idea on the rotating sig line mod!
Not only does Google respect links in forums but in highly trafficked forums they will even pick up urls that aren't hyperlinked. I recently experimented with this and it got a new blog indexed in a couple of hours. Gregg
