    Hi all....

I am wondering how links are effecting seo in general.

Lets say that I have a newsletter. Beside the usability to the user - does search engine count those links with their anchor text ?

    Thanks,
    Guy

Search engines can't spider emails because its under password protected account, so its worthless, at least SEO wise.

What do you mean the anchor text inside the e-mail?
The spider can't see the e-mail at all as the earlier poster said because e-mail accounts are password protected.

I think he means google displaying relevant ads in gmail.

I really don't believe you will get any weight for those links.

According to me that links can only increase your web site's traffic (may be) but not considered by back links for search engines for the same reason specified above (Password Protected)...

Lets say that my newsletter has 10,000 readers on a weekly basis. after a while - I have around 1000's links to my site. They are not consider as a backlink - this I know for sure (almost...). If I were the search engine - I would like to look at those links to help me get a clue about more websites and the keyword that are related to them.

    Isn't it the case ?

Emails? Spiders can't spider Javascript, let alone emails.
But links in email can provide tons of traffic to your desired site. Do it properly and we call it email marketing

If that was the case then all those Viagra sites would be ranking pretty high!

As the others have said, links in emails won't do you any good. Now, if you were to put your prior newsletter issues on your Web site and make them available to the public, THEN you could see some signficiant improvements.
